Communion in Action: Launching Global Youth Day in Fiji
17 March 2026The Lami Seventh-day Adventist Church began this initiative in 2025 as part of its mission outreach. The Sabbath School department organized a plan to conduct a Visitor’s Sabbath on the second or third Sabbath of the third month of every quarter. To prepare for this event, the church begins a Prayer Walk at the start of each quarter, continuing until one week before the Visitor’s Sabbath program.
The Prayer Walk takes place in four communities: Burekalou, Nakurukuru, Nasevou, and Waigasa. Members gather early in the morning, beginning at 4:00 a.m. from Monday to Wednesday, and the activity continues for up to ten weeks within a quarter.
Two of the communities in Lami had previously not allowed other denominations to hold religious meetings. However, through the consistent and faithful Prayer Walk ministry, doors began to open. In Nasevou, the church was eventually able to hold an AY program on an open ground, where Mr. Joni Vatuvatu once preached. The power of prayer helped break barriers, and the traditional clan leaders later granted permission for the church to conduct Visitor’s Sabbath in their community hall.
A similar experience occurred in Waigasa toward the end of the previous quarter. Church members continued their Prayer Walk even during heavy rain, sometimes carrying machetes to clear overgrown footpaths. Their persistence in prayer eventually led to an opportunity to hold Visitor’s Sabbath and an AY program within the community, a place that had previously been closed to other denominations.
Through these experiences, the church members have witnessed the power of persistent prayer. Rain or shine, the Prayer Walk continues faithfully. The ministry is currently in its seventh week of Prayer Walk in Burekalou, which is also one of the sites prepared for the Fiji for Christ initiative.
The impact of this ministry is also seen through community home visitations, which take place every last Sunday of the final month of each quarter, strengthening relationships and sharing hope with families in the area.
