Suva Adventist Primary School today hosted the official launch of Road Safety Day, bringing together school representatives from around the Lami area to promote greater awareness and responsibility for safer roads.

Students, teachers, parents and members of the community turned out in numbers to support the awareness program, which comes amid continuing concern over road accidents and fatalities in Fiji.

Chief Guest and Fiji Mission Education Director Mr. Josevata Sumo reminded those gathered that road safety begins with individual responsibility.
“Safety starts with me. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” Mr. Sumo said.

He also emphasised the importance of creating “safe roads, safe schools and a safe future,” encouraging students and the wider community to understand that the choices they make on and around the road can help protect lives.

The organisers acknowledged CJ Patel as the major sponsor of the program for its support in making the initiative possible. Appreciation was also extended to the Land Transport Authority for its partnership and continued commitment to road safety awareness and education in Fiji.

Road safety begins with each one of us. Whether we are drivers, passengers, pedestrians, parents or students, we all have a responsibility to protect life.
